Dance Programs

Prospect Heights Park District offers many types of dance classes for your enjoyment & fun! Your young ones will learn creative movement, basic motor and coordination skills, classroom cooperation, awesome dance steps to rhythm and beats and the chance to make new friends in class as well! Class Descriptions

Ballet & Tap – This class offers a chance for young dancers to be introduced to creative movement and new friendships! Here we will learn room directions, basic motor and coordination skills, and classroom cooperation. Ballet & Tap shoes required.

Competition Conditioning – Interested in trying out for our competition dance teams? Register for the Competition Conditioning classes and train with the coaches. This class will focus on core strength, technique (turns, flexibility, leaps and kicks), memory retention, and learning short combos of different dance styles including; Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical, and Contemporary. Signing up for the competition conditioning classes is a great way to meet the coaches, current dancers, and prepare for try-outs.

Contemporary – Contemporary combines elements of jazz, lyrical, modern, and ballet in an expressive style of dance that explores the versatility of movement through exercises and improvisation. Required attire: leotard or tank top with dance shorts or leggings and bare feet. May use ballet or jazz shoes.

Hip Hop – This class will expand on the fundamentals of Hip Hop and movements. Clean Gym Shoes or Jazz shoes required. 

Company – Dancers learn a variety of choreography to include Ballet, Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical & Contemporary along with terminology. Required attire: Jazz shoes & Ballet shoes. 

Poms – Dancers will learn beginning pom fundamentals and a basic routine. This class is great for promoting coordination and self-esteem. Gym or jazz shoes required. 

Princess Ballet – Join us for this fun introduction to Ballet where we will learn basic ballet steps. Put on your finest princess wear or your favorite Tutu and join us for a trip to fantasyland! Ballet shoes required.
